Neri Pozza editore was born in Vicenza in 1946 thanks to his namesake founder. From the publication, in the same year, of the novel by William Austin, Peter Rugg. The Missing Man, until the appearance of La grande vacanza by Goffredo Parise in 1953, the editions by Neri Pozza became one of the most extraordinary intellectual adventures in post-war Italy. With its modern design and the collaboration of major Italian poets and writers of the time (Gadda, Montale, Sbarbaro, Luzi, Cardarelli, Bontempelli), Neri Pozza has published books that are often unforgettable: La bufera e altro by Eugenio Montale, Il primo libro delle favole by Carlo Emilio Gadda, In quel preciso momento by Dino Buzzati and Il ragazzo morto e le comete, Goffredo Parise’s masterpiece. In the 1960s, Neri Pozza introduces an innovative American literature series in which are placed authors such as Whitman, James, Melville, Thoreau, Emerson and Hawthorne, edited by celebrated critics of the time.
After the death of its founder, the publishing house managed to join the faithfulness to its original mission (literary fiction and non-fiction) to the exploration of new trends in international literature. From Asian and Eastern to American literature, from young and fresh European fiction to a few new talents from the emerging countries, from travel literature to great international non-fiction narratives, the contemporary catalogue of Neri Pozza editore is rich with highly literary authors, such as Peter Ackroyd, Giorgio Agamben, David Benioff, William Boyd, Geraldine Brooks, Tracy Chevalier, Angelo Del Boca, Julian Fellows, Joshua Ferris, Romain Gary, Amitav Ghosh, Natsuo Kirino, Herman Koch, Erik Larson, Eshkol Nevo, David Nicholls, Gregory David Roberts, Jan-Phillipp Sendker, Edward St. Aubyn, and many more.
